was I reading somewhere that changing the front sprocket will reduce top end revs, most of my driving seems to be about 60 70 mph and its revving its nuts off, keep thinking im in 5th gear.

Bigger front - lower revs, more top end,  slower take off (not much slower mind)
Smaller front - higher revs, less top end, quicker take off

Reverse above for rear sprockets

should be 15 tooth as standard but some people fit a 14 tooth for better acceleration, I tried a 14t on my B6 but hated it, revving its nuts off at about the speed you stated.
also didn't notice much of a difference in the acceleration.

16T front on a Mk1 B6 makes it a far nicer ride...You don't have to work the gears so much.
16T front can be fitted to the B12 but you need to shave away part of the sprocket cover to get it to fit and actually be able to turn icon_thumright

sounds like you have a B12 and is it the mk1 or mk2 as if the mk2 you need to be wary because the speedo will not read correctly, but if its a mk1 then you ar eok as the speedo runs off the front wheel

The speedo might well be MORE accurate with a 16 front because it over-reads anyway.

You think you are in gear 5 looking for 6, so I take it its a B600. 70mph 5800rpm? ish. If its a MK1, I believe its a cable speedo which will be unaffected by sprocket tooth change so someone on the net told me.

I bought a 16 tooth front sprocket this morning as it happens. Hoping to gain a little tank range with it. Got programmable clocks coming too so I can set the speedo to be bang on.

The ones in the Chinese clocks thread. I have a clock loom so they will be plug and play. I like the digi clocks I have on it now but I don't like having no working fuel gauge or odometer.

I put 16 on my b12 mk2 made it much more rideable and speedo read truer. I am going to do the same on my b6 mk2 when this chain a sprocket set is worn out that came with the bike.

Make sure you have a file handy. You'll need to relieve two of the posts under the cover or it'll catch the chain with a 16.
