I did introduce myself in newbies as I do in a all the forums I am in......
Bandit 1200 S, 99/00 9670 original miles.
Heres my total dilemma, kin killin me……..
Don’t get me wrong, been fixing bikes since I was 14, and been working on carbs since I can remember.
Bought this (above bike) been sat in garage (covered) for years.
Put a used battery in it, cranked it, would not tick over or rev.
Pull carbs out, YUCK! Totally cleaned them out (bead blast inner float bowls) removed fuel mixture
Screws (all approx. 3 turns out) clean jets, new float bowl gaskets, and new spark plugs.
Change oil……. And change air filter.
Starts up, runs like poop, terrible tick over, terrible revs, ran for 10 mins, I pulled carbs off again to see if
I missed anything, Nope! All clear, put back on, runs exactly the same, poo!
Go ride it, after it warms up, OMG! Wow! Different bike, full power , tick over perfect.
Ride it for 25 miles, utter power beast…. Luv it…..
Now the fun begins……… go on holiday with the Mrs to Arkansas, took my GTR1400 and she takes 96
Honda Magna 750, we had a blast for 4 days……….
Come home and start the Bandit…WTF! Utter poo! Terrible tick over and wont run on 4 cylinders, FKCU!
Pull carbs again to see if I really did miss something in there. (Im getting good taking em out now)
Totally clean!!!!!!!
Put back on, runs like poo, go ride it, 1st 3 miles poop, after that, again awesome power, tick over perfect, took it on one of the endless roads out here to clean it out, flawless at 150 mph.
Huge grin all way home……
Next day, come to start it, poo!!!!! WTF!!!!! Called a knowledgable friend who works at Honda dealer, he says those bandits run bad cold if the valves are tight….. I paused for thought, ok, roughly 10K on it, Ill go ahead and adjust valves, Did intakes/exhaust valves exactly what the sticker on frame states.
Back together, here’s the dilemma…….
Run the bike with petrol tank OFF and runs oh so so nice, clean revs, perfect tickover, Put tank on, poo!
Runs on 2-3 cylinders, blue smoke from end can, then cuts out…….
Take tank off, bit of a B. to start, then runs perfect until petrol runs out….
What the heck am I missing here?
I’m completely baffled, I know I rebuilt carbs RIGHT the 1st time…..
Help………
Manc in Louisiana…..
Just went out to it now, looking down on bike, I pulled up the right vent hose and it came off in my hand! the "joint" between
carb 3 and 4 is split.... arghhhhhhhh!!!
